Momiji Tempura 紅葉天婦羅

紅葉天婦羅是大阪箕面市 (みのお/Monoo) 的名物,口感有點像中國新年時常吃的炸角仔,味道不錯。其實紅葉本身無有甚麼味道,只是焯頭,炸粉的味道比較重要。不過幾有意境,紅葉季節吃紅葉天婦羅也頗有意思。

Momiji Tempura is made with red maple leaf, deep fried with slightly sweet batter. The maple leaf doesn’t really have much taste, but the deep fried sweet batter makes it taste like potato chips. Momiji Tempura is a speciality sweet of Minoo City, Osaka.

Emergency DIY Stove

Material: Toilet paper, Aluminium Foil, Beer/Beverage Can x 3 or more, Salad Oil

Caution: Do you use gasoline or lighter butane!

  1. roll toilet paper to make wicks, about 1.5 to 2 inches long
  2. clip the wicks with aluminum foil
  3. cut beverage can into two halves, about 40%/60%
  4. fold clipped wicks into triangular shape, then put into the shorter half of can. Make at least 3 of them
  5. Add salad oil into the can, roughly 0.3 to 0.5 inches deep, light the wicks
  6. Form a stable stand with the longer halves of can. Put a pot on them
