Accessible Science Initiative

Client: Accessible Science Initiative

Kind: Logo Design

Idea: the framework of the logo consists of 3 circles and 2 connecting sticks, with the centre circle being the biggest one. This form is inspired by the molecular structure of water (H2O), which has 2 smaller hydrogen molecules and 1 oxygen molecule. The whole logo is arranged in such a way that it looks like the molecule is floating freely in the air, rather than settled firmly on a horizontal plane.

When observed primitively, the logo can be recognized from 10 feet away even without the help of the English label and details inside the circles. Taking into account that ASI works with developing countries, where the quality of printed materials may not high enough to show the details inside the logo, the overall form can still be highly visible and recognizable.

When observed more closely, the logo can communicate the major responsibility of ASI. First, The water molecule form is a subtle suggestion of the organization’s connection with science. Inside the top circle are 2 test tubes and a flask, symboling that the study of science is a key role of the organization. In the bottom circle, there are some people holding hands standing side by side, conveying the sense of strong community. With the globe being at the centre connecting these two other circles, it completes the whole meaning if “bringing science to the global community”.
